Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a brand name for a neurotoxin call botulinum toxin type A. It’s a popular injectable treatment used for both medical and cosmetic purposes.   Botox is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.  Which works by temporarily paralyzing muscles or blocking nerve signals.  Cosmetically, Botox is FDA approved to reduce wrinkles and fine lines in areas such as forehead lines, crow’s feet and frown lines.  Botox has medical uses as well, such as hyperhidrosis.

Effects are usually seen in 3-7 days, and can last up to 3-6 months, depending on the individual active lifestyle.

Side effects may include bruising, swelling, headache, or flu-like symptoms.

At RAW, Botox is only administered by a licensed healthcare professional. Botox is one of the most common minimally invasive cosmetic procedures.

Rather than physically adding volume to wrinkles the way injectable fillers do, Botox prevents the wrinkles from forming when certain facial expressions are made. When Botox is injected, it interrupts the connection between the muscles and nerves. When injected by trained professionals, such as the medical practitioners at RAW, BOTOX smooths your complexion without interfering with your ability to make facial expressions. This type of injectable treatment has been successfully used for years to treat some of the most common age-related concerns of women and men alike.

After your treatment, you can get back to your day as soon as you’d like, although you may experience some minor injection site reactions such as bruising, bleeding, tenderness, or itching. These reactions are all normal and usually last no more than a day or so.

Keep in mind that it does take some time for BOTOX results to develop — typically about a week – but they can last between three and six months, depending on your own unique physiology and where on your face you had injections.
